Hydrant should be inspected at the time of delivery to verify compliance with specifications and to check for damage during shipment. The hydrant should be cycled to fully open and full closed positions to ensure that there no internal damage or breakage has occurred during shipment and handling. All external bolts should be checked for tightness.
After inspection, the hydrant valve should be closed and the outlet nozzle caps replaced to prevent the entry of foreign material. Hydrants should be stored with the inlets facing down. Whenever possible, hydrants in storage should be protected from the effects of weather and the elements. Hydrants should be re-inspected just before installation.
